You’ve got to hand it to old-style GAA

-

Sir — I wish to commend Cullen Hanrahan on his letter last week (‘Is it football or handball?’, September 10).

The modern game has become very boring to watch, with the ball being handpassed back and forward, over and over again.

Back in the old days the basis of the game was catch and kick — and I can tell you that it was a joy to behold several players leaping to strive to catch the dropping ball. Perhaps if one of our TV stations would show a recording of a game played years ago in the old style, it would prove the point? Dermot Casey, Holycross, Co Tipperary
