On new motherhood

The memory

The moment Cathal, our baby, was born. It was both the most challenging and empowering experience of my life, and without a doubt, the best thing I have ever done. There might be a bit of a trend with my answers, as he is only a newborn.

The moment of the day

There are many moments of gratitude right now, as I feel like the luckiest woman in the world, but there’s nothing like a nice relaxing evening, sitting in front of the fire.

The song

Any of the songs from my ‘chilled’ labour playlist. It was filled with my favourite chill-out tunes from artists like Bon Iver and Sigur Ros.

The movie

Dead Poets Society is one of my all-time favourites. At 14, I saw it for the first time, and it had a profound effect on me.

The hero

Wonder Woman springs to mind. I loved the new movie.

The book

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte; an absolute classic. I can still quote from it. As a teenager, I was obsessed by it.

The outfit

A black lace cocktail dress by Australian designer Collette Dinnigan that I bought over 10 years ago. It was an expensive purchase at the time, but I’ve got so much wear out of it. It was worth every penny.

The accessory

I don’t tend to wear a lot of jewellery, so my favourite accessory would probably be my watch. I can’t leave the house without it. Of course, wellies will be my must-have accessory for the Ploughing; the heels will certainly be left at home.

The gadget

My phone, which is already full of photos and videos of our new addition.

The pet hate

Insincerity and, also, angry drivers. If you’re stuck in traffic, you’re stuck in traffic — nothing you can do about that!

The friend

There are a few truly brilliant people in my life whom I am so lucky to call my friends. They know who they are.

The beauty product

Right now, it’s under-eye concealer and mascara — anything to make me look more awake as I survive on broken sleep.

The part of my body

My eyes — they never gain weight! I always get lovely compliments about my eyes.

The holiday

I’ve travelled to some incredible places in India, Africa and Thailand, but one of my best holidays was spent in a caravan in Co Clare with my family when I was a kid.

The piece of advice

I love The Four Agreements from Mexican author Don Miguel Ruiz. 1 Be impeccable with your word. 2 Don’t take anything personally. 3 Don’t make assumptions. 4 Always do your best. Words to live by.

The drink

Right now, anything with lemon and ice! But I am looking forward to enjoying a G&T in time.

The hotel

I have a soft spot for Kilronan Castle, in Co Roscommon; Parknasilla Resort and Spa in Co Kerry; and the g in Galway.

The bar

You’re spoilt for choice in my home county of Galway. In Galway itself, I love Monroe’s, Tigh Neachtain, The Front Door, Freeney’s, Taaffes — the list goes on!

The hobby

I love anything yoga-related, especially sound yoga, mantras and chanting. I’ll miss the summer evenings, and not being able to practise outside.

The celebrity

I’m allergic to the word ‘celebrity’, as it conjures up images of reality-TV stars.

The virtue

Integrity would be high on my list. You either have it or you don’t.

The vice

I’m very boring, as I don’t have one, other than my obsession with TV shows involving international drug trafficking — from Breaking Bad to the latest addiction, Narcos.

The smell

My newborn baby boy; if I could bottle his fragrance, I would!

The taste

Hummus; granola; and chocolate. I also love the taste of freshly baked brown bread, so needless to say I’m looking forward to the Junior Baking Competition in the Aldi tent at the Ploughing Championships!
