Cheerio Pierce, old chap

PIERCE Brosnan is a British icon. That’s according to US TV host Stephen Colbert, when interviewing our Pierce the other night. This is the sort of thing that normally drives keyboard warriors bonkers on Twitter. Not this time. It’s time to face facts. He isn’t one of us any more. It’s like we lost him in a prisoner swap, where the Brits handed over Daniel Day-Lewis and we gave them Brosnan along with an option on Graham Norton.

Brosnan corrected Colbert’s British icon assumptions in THAT accent, the one that pretty much says: “I can see why you might think that, Stephen, old boy.” Pierce explained to Colbert he adopted the accent when he moved to south London in 1964, to make sure he fitted in. Because nothing says ‘sowf ’ London more than a man who sounds like the Viscount of Bristol.

It’s sad to admit it, because Brosnan is one of the good guys. But it’s clear that not only can you take the man out of Navan, you can also take Navan out of the man.
