Stylewatch: Get the boot in

Big boots are back, and they are a perfect entry point for this season’s biggest trend — laid-back 1970s. After several seasons of ankle boots as our go-to winter look, this autumn/ winter it’s about knee-high — or thigh-high — round-toed, stacked-heel boots. In terms of colour and texture, it’s everything from autumnal shades, to floral prints, to suede, or slouchy sequined numbers for the truly sartorially dedicated.

The school-run style of Claudia Schiffer, right, is an easy guide for this trend: subtle 1970s has long been her signature look. Think roll-neck sweaters, dark denim and boho dresses, all of which take the tack out of thigh-high.
