Sweet talk

- Susan Jane White

Little titans of glee — these chai candies satisfy everyone from grumpy grandparents to pugnacious thugs (and other such playdates). They are the snazzlejazzle, with a smooth, rich bite and playful pops of sea salt.

The mere whiff of chocolate has the ability to vaccinate us against lousy moods. Try eating these while staying cross. It’s physically impossible. That’s because our serotonin thrives on the stuff. Something explosive happens my brain. Scientists tie this experience to a neurochemical called dopamine. Once stirred, dopamine can initiate an electrical cavalry through the veins, and even service our yoni. Yup. Little wonder why chocolate sends our pheromones into orbit.

We’re using teabags in this recipe to replace individual spices. Hear me out. Buying six different spices will crank up the price. A stealthier trick is to purchase uncaffeinated chai teabags — I use the ubiquitous Pukka brand, available from supermarkets and health stores.

Vanilla Chai, for example, has ginger, vanilla, black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon and chilli. You can tear the teabags open and tip them into any chocolate recipe. Namaste.
