Prof Marston and the Wonder Women

Cert: 16; Now showing

- AINE O’CONNOR

The creator of Wonder Woman clearly loved women, and in her first film as both writer and director Angela Robinson tells the story of that creator and the women he loved. Although not always evenly or skilfully told, it’s a great story. In the 1940s Prof Marston (Luke Evans) is under investigation for the lewd content of his highly successful comic. The story flips back then to 1928 when Marston and his wife Elizabeth (Rebecca Hall) develop a three-way fascination with student Olive Byrne (Bella Heathcote). Their love and search for authenticity cost them dearly but led to the creation of WW ,an amalgamation of both Elizabeth and Olive and Marston’s theory of love and submission. Flawed but engaging, it’s the perfect companion to one of the year’s biggest films.
