TK Whi­taker, con­ferred “Ir­ish­man of the 20th Cen­tury” in 2001, has left just over €1m in his will. Thomas Ken­neth Whi­taker, orig­i­nally from Rostrevor, Co Down, was ap­pointed sec­re­tary of the De­part­ment of Fi­nance in 1955 at the age of 39. With Taoiseach, Sean Le­mass, he em­barked on a pro­gramme of eco­nomic ex­pan­sion. He was ad­vi­sor to var­i­ous gov­ern­ments for half a cen­tury and then Gov­er­nor of the Cen­tral Bank. Dr Whi­taker of Stil­lor­gan Road, Dublin, who died af­ter a short ill­ness on Jan­uary 9, 2017, aged 100, left es­tate val­ued at €1,070,713, ac­cord­ing to doc­u­ments lodged in the Pro­bate Of­fice in Dublin.
