TK WHITAKER LEAVES €1M

TK Whitaker, conferred “Irishman of the 20th Century” in 2001, has left just over €1m in his will. Thomas Kenneth Whitaker, originally from Rostrevor, Co Down, was appointed secretary of the Department of Finance in 1955 at the age of 39. With Taoiseach, Sean Lemass, he embarked on a programme of economic expansion. He was advisor to various government­s for half a century and then Governor of the Central Bank. Dr Whitaker of Stillorgan Road, Dublin, who died after a short illness on January 9, 2017, aged 100, left estate valued at €1,070,713, according to documents lodged in the Probate Office in Dublin.
