CHESS

- Alexander Baburin

THE European Teach Chess Championships finished last Monday in Greece. Russia won the women’s tournament with 17 points out of 18, ahead of Georgia (14pts) and Ukraine (13pts). In the open section Azerbaijan and Russia tied for first with 14 points each, with the former taking gold on better tie-break. Ukraine finished third with 13 points.

In the long history of chess there were many games which stood out for their beauty, such as The Immortal Game (Anderssen-Kieseritzky, London 1851) and The Evergreen Game (Anderssen-Dufresne, Berlin 1852).

The following game was played in the Chinese Club Championship a week ago — and some people already call it The Chinese Evergreen Game and The Game of the 21st century.
