Suffering in silence

-

Despite living in the Western world and having free speech, most of us still suffer in silence. We don’t quite say what is wrong, why we are angry and what we’re ashamed of until it’s too late. I remember watching a talk where comedian and TV presenter Sandi Toksvig said, “Secrets are cancer for the soul”, and I agree with her. The only path to true freedom, both within ourselves and in the world outside, is to speak up and align with our own personal truth, values, and ethos as a human being. If you are on the sidelines looking on but aware of what it happening, you are, very simply, part of the problem. There are currently a lot of issues being brought to the surface, and, at times like these, it’s important to go within and reflect in a deep and honest way about how we have played a part in this, and what we can do, moving forward. The main reason people don’t speak up is because they become a lone ranger. Most people would speak up a bit more if they knew they had support around them. Fear is a deep motivator for silence, but it’s only by pushing through that fear and facing what scares us the most that any real change happens.
