Woman (70s) fends off handbag thief

Gardai are appealing for witnesses after a woman, aged in her 70s, fought off an attempted robbery in Dublin last Friday night.

The woman was approached by a man thought to be aged in his 20s at a bus stop on Newgrove Avenue, Sandymount, at 7pm. He tried to take the woman’s handbag but she held on to it before he fled with nothing.

She sustained minor injuries during the struggle and was brought to St Vincent’s Hospital for treatment. Her injuries were described as non-life threatening.
