Woman (70s) fends off hand­bag thief

Gar­dai are ap­peal­ing for wit­nesses af­ter a woman, aged in her 70s, fought off an at­tempted rob­bery in Dublin last Fri­day night.

The woman was ap­proached by a man thought to be aged in his 20s at a bus stop on New­grove Av­enue, Sandy­mount, at 7pm. He tried to take the woman’s hand­bag but she held on to it be­fore he fled with noth­ing.

She sus­tained mi­nor in­juries dur­ing the strug­gle and was brought to St Vin­cent’s Hos­pi­tal for treat­ment. Her in­juries were de­scribed as non-life threat­en­ing.
