Laura’s in print for HIV charity

-

She hasn’t done bad for a young wan from Bray, has she? Two weeks ago, Laura Whitmore was the host at the MTV Best World Stage in London. I was in the audience to watch her introduce another Irish export that has done quite well internationally — U2 at Trafalgar Square.

“They are the greatest live band in the world,” she told me after the show. “To see them play such an iconic location was magical and as a fellow Irishman, announcing them on stage as global icons is a moment I’ll remember forever.”

The Bray Wanderer then jetted off to Hong Kong. She is jetting back to London this week to launch something very special — and very important — for World Aids Day for the MTV Staying Alive Foundation.

“I’ve created a pattern with my friend and designer Gresham Blake, based on my favourite things — music, flowers and the colour yellow,” Laura told me.

“This print makes me smile every time I see it and hopefully it can brighten up many other peoples’ day.

“We’re launching it on World Aids Day to help raise awareness and necessary funds to eradicate HIV.”

The profits go towards MTV Staying Alive, a charity Laura has been involved with for almost 10 years, and which aims to empower and educate a generation of young people and equip them with the tools and knowledge to protect themselves and their peers from the HIV epidemic.

It is shocking that today Aids is still the leading cause of death among young people in the 10-24 age group in Africa and the second leading cause globally.
