Dublin All-Ireland winners tie the knot in romantic winter wedding

- Niamh Horan

DUBLIN may have won the double All-Ireland in football but two star players finished off the year on an even higher note.

Dublin player Paul Flynn married his long-time love, Dublin ladies footballer player Fiona Hudson yesterday.

One could forgive the bride some anxiety given the threat of heavy snow in the air. But the skies stayed clear and Fiona looked stunning in her classic white wedding gown as she walked down the aisle in Virginia, Co Cavan.

The couple had the reception in Virginia Park Lodge, owned by celebrity chef Richard Corrigan.

Fellow Dublin star Darren Daly, who is Paul’s brother-in-law, was best man, while Paul’s groomsmen were his brother Fergus, pal David Killeen, who plays for Fingallians, nephew Cian Daly and Fiona’s brother Liam.

Fiona’s five bridesmaids included her sisters Karen and Sarah and friends Grace Gibson, Lauren Carroll and Catherine Keaney. The ceremony was conducted by Fr Dermot Prior.

The guest list at the reception included Dubs legends Bernard Brogan, Michael Darragh Macauley, Cian O’Sullivan, Philly McMahon, Stephen Cluxton, Eoghan O’Gara, Paddy Andrews, Cormac Costello, James McCarthy, Con O’Callaghan and Dean Rock. Dean is dating Dublin ladies player Niamh McEvoy, while Con O’Callaghan’s girlfriend Aoife Kane also plays for the Dublin ladies team. Dublin manager Jim Gavin and former boss Pat Gilroy were also on the extensive invitation list.
