High security at funeral of city murder victim
THE funeral took place yesterday, amid high security, of career criminal Jason Molyneux, who was murdered in the north inner city just hours before he was due to bury his close friend Derek Coakley Hutch.
Jason Molyneux’s son Parker (seven) was applauded by mourners after singing a tribute to his murdered father.
The dead man’s partner of 10 years, Nicole, was among those who brought up the offertory gifts at the service at St Agatha’s Church on North William Street in the north inner city.
Some 250 mourners paid their respects to the 27-yearold murder victim. The celebrant was Fr Brendan Kealy.
The funeral was delayed for about 15 minutes as family and friends paid their final respects in a nearby house where Molyneux had been waked.
A large number of uniformed gardai and members of the Armed Support Unit were present in several areas outside.
Molyneux was shot six times in the chest and stomach after he went to meet someone at James Larkin House flats complex.
He was taken to the Mater Hospital but pronounced dead. He was well known to gardai for involvement in serious and organised crime and had 120 convictions.
Fr Kealy told mourners that people were “shocked and horrified” at the killing.
Following the funeral, the coffin was brought under armed escort to Glasnevin crematorium.
