Shellfish platter
Even before we all became foodies, and beardies started going overboard on the old Scandi thing, we generally managed to muster up a decent shellfish platter to keep the tourists happy — even if they were overly padded with Russian salad, and a ton of mussels in coastal areas or city tourist traps. However, tucked away in SoCoDu, in a line-up of shops, is Michael’s of Mount Merrion, where Gaz Smyth serves the real McCoy — an amazing shellfish platter, pictured right. It’s loaded with fresh lobster, crab claws and Dublin prawns, which he buys fresh in Howth. At €70 for two, and served with fries, it’s a cracker.
