BRIDGE

- John Comyn

AFTER a very long holiday weekend, the Camrose trials produced the obvious runaway winners — Tom Hanlon, John Carroll, Mark Morn and Donal MacAonghusa. They had a massive 33 VPs to spare over the runners-up.

This was never the slightest test for the favourites and the question now remains; who will be the third pair? Hard to know, but the decision will be made by the winning quartet in consultation with the committee.

One thing impressed me and that was Tomas MacCormaic’s decision to include three juniors on his squad. This can only develop their game for later trials.

They acquitted themselves well, but must learn not to overbid.

The Crown Plaza Hotel is the venue for the East of Ireland congress this coming weekend. Usual programme; entries to fearghaloboyle@gmail.com, 086-2652871.

Alas it clashes with Kenmare Congress where entries will be taken on 087-3560024.

Teams at 11.30am finishes the congress on the final Sunday.
