Fyffes plans new production centre

- Fearghal O’Connor

FRUIT importer Fyffes is planning to expand its Irish production and distribution capabilities by building new facilities in north Dublin.

Its parent company — Motcombe Ltd — has applied to Fingal County Council for planning permission to build an almost 10,000 square metre (around 100,000 square feet) facility at the M1 Business Park at Courtlough, close to Balbriggan.

The warehouse development would also include an office building. A spokesman for the company said that the plans were part of routine business development for the company and would not impact on other Fyffes facilities.

Fyffes former sister company, Total Produce, already has a large food-service operation at the business park.

Fyffes was acquired from the McCann family by Japanese company Sumitomo in 2017 in a €751m deal.
