Kanye spares Trump the rap

Oh my god what a relief, everyone in American politics must have been screaming this week after Kanye announced that he was “distancing” himself from politics, and presumably changed his MAGA hat to a “starting to have second thoughts” hat. It really works out well for everyone on all sides of the political divide. Trump gets, what for him, is a surprisingly easy divorce, a few less awkward conversations, and, as an added bonus, no longer has to pretend he has even a passing interest in rap. And celebrity Democrats no longer have to spend a lot of time parsing the musings of a man who sounds, as Jimmy Kimmel sagely pointed out, like he may be wearing a hospital bracelet. Kanye’s latest thing was Blexit — the movement for black people to leave the Democratic Party — and it was a row over, er, merchandise that soured him on the whole thing. Whether he can stay out of politics remains to be seen. As his old friend in the White House knows, Twitter is always tempting.
