CATCH-UP TV - CASE YOU MISSED IT...
Inside British Vogue RTE Player, until November 18, episodes 1&2 This was first broadcast in 2016, and now acts, not just as an insight into the precarious world of fashion magazines, but also as a fascinating kind of moment-in-time record of a changing world. Documentary maker Richard Macer spent nine months at the magazine, watching the comings and goings of shoots, editorial meetings and daily power plays. At the time, the big decision was around trying to appeal to a younger, insta-friendly generation.
Not long after this was released though, Alexandra Shulman left as editor, after more than 25 years, to be replaced by Edward Enninful (the first black, male editor). His appointment came at a time when the magazine was subject to various gripes about having been, throughout its 102-year history, ‘too white’ — Naomi Campbell (left), now a contributing editor, criticised its lack of diversity in the workforce. Meanwhile, Lucinda Chambers, fashion director at the time the documentary was made and one of the natural-born stars of the show, parted company with Vogue soon afterwards, and didn’t pretend the break was mutual. “I didn’t leave. I was fired,” she said. She has since gone on to launch her own clothing label, Colville.
Here, she describes the fashion industry: “It’s very quick to decide whether you’re in or you’re out. It can be over very quickly and then it’s almost as if you count for nothing.”
Watching this now, there is the intriguing feeling of seeing an iceberg looming that those on-screen haven’t spotted yet.
Hector Central TG4 Player, season 1, episodes 1-8 Hector O hEochagain begins an epic, possibly dangerous, trip through Central America, starting with Panama City then on to Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize and more.
In each place, he talks to ordinary — and extraordinary — people, in an attempt to gain an understanding of what are some of the world’s most beautiful, and troubled, spots.
