The Loves of my LIFE

The country-music star chats to Chloe Brennan about her favourite people, places and things

-

Country-music star Lisa McHugh

The person

It would have to be my parents. They have been the inspiration and backbone to everything since I was born, and I feel incredibly lucky to have had such an amazing upbringing and life to date.

The memory

When I performed on the Grand Ole Opry stage in Nashville with Gene Watson, back in 2012. It was an experience like no other, and it is always something I look back on with pure joy.

The moment of the day

When I get my breakfast and the first coffee of the day.

The song

Travelling Soldier by the Dixie Chicks. I learned this song when I was around 11 or 12 years old, and I sang it over and over again. It was one of the first American country songs that I learned to sing and play, and I remember it was the first song I sang in front of anyone.

The movie

Mrs Doubtfire. I grew up with this film, and I honestly can’t count how many times I have watched it. I literally know nearly every word, and despite having seen it so many times, it never gets old!

The hero

My dad. Nothing is unfixable or impossible in his eyes. He taught me to work hard, and never expect anything to just happen in life. He taught me to chase after my dreams, and no matter how much or little success that may come your way, always remember what’s important in life — and that’s your family and the people who mean the most to you.

The outfit

The catsuit I wore for my first live DVD, which I produced and recorded. It was gold and silver, and sparkled from head to toe. I loved it!

The accessory

My ring. I worked incredibly hard, and I was then given my very first cheque from a big show that I had done, and I decided to treat myself to some jewellery. I never leave the house without it now.

The gadget

My mobile phone.

The pet hate

Laziness, lies and jealousy.

The beauty product

Mascara. I love wearing no make-up whenever I can, but I think if you add a little mascara and nothing else, it totally opens your eyes and changes your look instantly.

The friend

I’d have to say my best friend and tour manager, Cathal Fee. He has been there for me every single day since the day I met him, and he has been a great friend — he listens to me and is a shoulder to cry on, no matter what the circumstances. I’m so lucky to have him in my life.

The drink

I love a Hendrick’s gin, with cucumber and Fever-Tree elderflower tonic.

The bar

Probably one of the bars in Temple Bar or Galway. I always love going somewhere with live music and a bit of a buzz about the place, and that’s exactly what Temple Bar and Galway have.

The hotel

The Westbury in Dublin. I’ve been treated like royalty every time I have stayed there; I absolutely love it.

The holiday

When I went with a group of my friends to Las Vegas, Nevada, in the US, and then to Cancun, in Mexico, on holidays. It was incredible.

The hobby

As mad as it sounds, I really enjoy working out and going to the gym when I have free time.

The piece of advice

Do not take no for an answer. Always remember your strengths and weaknesses, and never be afraid to ask for help.

The part of my body

I’m not sure anyone can feel 100pc in love with every single part of their body, and I am no different. I have my flaws, and things that I like about myself more than others. I’d probably choose my eyes and eyelashes if I had to pick.

The celebrity

Holly Willoughby.

The smell

The smell of a home-cooked meal when you walk through the door of your house.

The taste

I love an Indian or Thai, or some sort of spicy curry.
