Sad goodbye bash in Marbs for Becketts restaurant

-

Once upon a time, during the time of a certain tiger, the wealthy Irish went to Marbella and were fed by vivacious Dubliner Marc Quinlan in his famous restaurant Becketts in Calle Camilo Jose Cela. Last night, Becketts had a goodbye party as his restaurant closed.

“I would sincerely like to thank our loyal customers for all their support over the past fifteen years,” Marc told me, referring to the likes of Michael and Norma Smurfit, Kathleen and Albert Reynolds, Bertie Ahern, Annette and Patrick Rocca, Liam Neeson, Alan Sugar, Westlife, Twink, Keith Barry, Charlie McCreevy and many others who dined in Becketts over the years.

In the summer of 2008, Marc hosted the Marbella Ball at Finca De Conception in Istan attended by many of Becketts’s regulars. “I’ll never forget the restaurant or the memories — many great and some sad. We are moving our team and concept to our sister restaurant, The Harbour Bar & Restaurant in Marbella’s port,” said Marc, who started off working in Bono’s Clarence Hotel. “It has the best views in Marbella — overlooking the beach and the marina.”

Closer to home, but with wonderful sea views of its own, Rasam in Glasthule had broadcaster extraordinary Pat Kenny in last Sunday evening to celebrate his birthday with Cathy and the gang.

There was a birthday cake with sparklers and Champagne. The Newstalk superstar is something of a creature of habit, as he celebrates his birthday every year in the divine Rasam.
