Arctic blast freezes millions in US

Tens of millions of Americans endured Arctic-like temperatures as low as minus 49°C that were blamed for at least 21 deaths last week. Warmer weather is on the way, but that offered little comfort to vulnerable populations such as the homeless and elderly. Hospitals in the mid-West saw many frostbite victims, with the most severe cases having fingers and toes amputated.
