Trump will only do a one-man show
TRUMP’S declaration of a National Emergency brought to mind a recent statement of his, that he would “Do National Emergency” — an important nuance here, and one that he uses a lot. He will “Do Healthcare”, he will “Do The Wall,” because in his mind these are the titles of episodes in the TV series in which he is starring.
And no, I am not making an analogy here, indeed I am trying to correct all the inaccurate reporting which regards the Trump administration as being “like” a TV series — it is not “like” a TV series in the sense that The Sopranos was not “like” a TV series.
It is a TV series, and a forthcoming episode will Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez be “National Emergency”. And as long as many commentators are unable to internalise that, Trump will always be ahead of them. It explains many things, such as his hatred of going to summits with loads of other leaders, because it departs from the fundamental TV rule that each episode has to be mainly about him — viewers just don’t accept the main man being reduced to a bit-part.
So I think he would be somewhat concerned about the rise of the brilliant Alexandria OcasioCortez, who featured in the Diary last summer, and emboldened by that boost, is now an American sensation.
Clearly he can falsely accuse her of being a Communist, but Trump will know that she looks great on television, and that next to a degenerate hooligan such as himself, she would look even greater.
At that point, he might have to “Do Armageddon”.
