MONSTER TRUCKS (2016) Channel 4, 2.30pm

Family adventure, starring Lucas Till, Jane Levy, Thomas Lennon and Rob Lowe. Young Tripp spends his dull life in a small town working in a junkyard. One day everything changes when he stumbles across an unusual but friendly creature that feeds on oil. Tripp soon discovers that the lovable animal, which he calls Creech, is being hunted by a fracking company, and it’s up to Tripp to find a way to save him.

JURASSIC WORLD (2015) ITV2, 6.35pm

Action-packed reboot of the classic sci-fi adventure, starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D’Onofrio and BD Wong. The resort where people can come see actual living dinosaurs has noticed a dip in sales, so the powers that be decide to create a brand-new species to pull the crowds back in. However, the deadly creature escapes and starts killing everything in sight. Now it’s up to the staff to stop it before the threat eliminates all other life on the island.

THE SNAPPER (1993) Virgin Media 1, 9pm

Roddy Doyle adapts his own novel into this comedy drama, starring Colm Meaney, Tina Kellegher and Ruth McCabe. Sharon lives in a small Irish town with her large family. However, she causes a commotion among the locals after she gets pregnant, but refuses to name the father.

MONDAY JAWS (1975) ITV4, 9pm

Steven Spielberg’s classic thriller, starring Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss. The small summer getaway spot of Amity Island comes under threat from a large shark that uses its waters to hunt. It’s up to police chief Martin Brody to find a way to stop the creature. However, as the body count rises and the town’s busy season is threatened, he is under pressure to act fast.

TRUE LIES (1994) Film4, 9pm

James Cameron’s over-the-top action comedy, starring Arnold Schwarzene­gger and Jamie Lee Curtis. Top government agent Harry Tasker keeps his work life a secret from his wife, Helen. However, when he starts to worry that she is having an affair, he uses his skills to find out the truth — all while trying to prevent a terrorist scheme.

BURN AFTER READING (2008) TG4, 9.30pm

Comedy crime caper from the Coen Brothers, starring Brad Pitt, Frances McDormand, George Clooney, John Malkovich and Tilda Swinton. Two bumbling gym employees come across a mysterious disk which contains top-secret CIA informatio­n on it. They think that they can use it to get a big-money ransom, but the situation escalates out of control.

TUESDAY SUFFRAGETT­E (2015) More4, 9pm

Biographic­al drama, starring Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham

Carter and Meryl Streep. In 1912, young working mother Maud Watts gets caught up in the world of political activism after she is moved by the actions of those who want to secure the right to vote for women.

AMERICAN SNIPER (2014) RTE2, 9pm

Clint Eastwood’s drama, starring Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller. Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle serves his country over four tours of duty. His actions save many lives, and he gains much praise as a result. However, he finds it hard returning to life back home, where his wife and family notice that he’s not quite the same man he once was.

MAN ABOUT DOG (2004) Virgin Media 2, 11pm

Pat Shortt leads the cast of this witty Irish comedy. Three friends end up in debt to a bookie, and decide to run away from their problems. However, while doing so they come across a temperamen­tal but winning greyhound, and start to formulate a get-rich-quick plot.

WEDNESDAY THE LAST STAND (2013) Film4, 9pm

Action, starring Arnold Schwarzene­gger, Forest Whitaker and Johnny Knoxville. Ray Owens is the sheriff of a small town in America which is the last stop before the Mexican border. His quiet home gets turned upside down when the notorious and deadly leader of a drug cartel avoids the law and tries to escape to South America. It’s now up to Ray and his ragtag deputies to stop them.

PROMETHEUS (2012) Film4, 11.10pm

Ridley Scott’s prequel to the Alien franchise, starring Noomi Rapace, Logan Marshall-Green, Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron. A team of scientists are exploring deep space in an attempt to find out where the human race came from. They follow a series of ancient clues to a distant planet where they make some unusual discoverie­s, but things take a turn when the crew starts falling foul of strange infections and nightmaris­h creatures.

RED LIGHTS (2012) Channel 4, 1.25am

Fantasy thriller, starring Sigourney Weaver, Robert De Niro and Cillian Murphy. Renowned-yet-reclusive psychic Simon Silver re-emerges years after his biggest critic passed away under mysterious circumstan­ces. Psychologi­st Margaret Matheson and her assistant Tom Buckley decide to investigat­e whether Silver is a fraud, and grow more obsessed with his behaviour.

THURSDAY MEN IN BLACK II (2002) Film4, 7.15pm

Sci-fi comedy sequel, starring Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith. Agent J has to pull Agent K out of retirement in order to take down a dangerous alien from his former partner’s past who has reappeared on Earth on a deadly mission of revenge.

FASTER (2010) Virgin Media 1, 9pm

Action, with Dwayne Johnson, Billy Bob Thornton, Maggie Grace and Carla Gugino. An excon who is fresh out of prison sets out on a killing spree. At first the police think that he is murdering at random, but soon start to uncover the truth — that their target is taking down the gang of criminals who once set him up and left him for dead.

ENEMY OF THE STATE (1998) ITV4, 10pm

Tony Scott’s crime thriller, starring Will Smith, Gene Hackman and Jon Voight. Lawyer Robert Clayton Dean lives an ordinary life until he is accidental­ly sent evidence that ties to a high-profile crime. Now the corrupt politician who could take the fall if this informatio­n gets out will stop at nothing to get it back, and eliminate Robert in the process.

FRIDAY THE EXPENDABLE­S 2 (2012) Virgin Media 1, 10pm

Action-packed sequel, starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzene­gger. The veteran team of mercenarie­s are back, but when a young new recruit is killed in cold blood by a new adversary, they are on the hunt for payback.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (2014) BBC1, 11.05pm

Marvel’s comedy action, with Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana (below left), Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper. A ragtag gang of intergalac­tic criminals band together on a mission to prevent the villainous Ronan from acquiring an Infinity Stone — a powerful gem that has enough power to eliminate all life on any planet he chooses.

OLDBOY (2013) Channel 4, 12.45am

Spike Lee’s remake of Chanwook Park’s classic revenge flick, starring Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, Samuel L Jackson and Sharlto Copley. A man is kidnapped and held prisoner for 20 years, only to be released again unexpected­ly. Now he wants answers, and sets out to find those who are responsibl­e.

SATURDAY SECRET LIFE OF PETS (2016) RTE1, 6.35pm

Animation, featuring the voices of Eric Stonestree­t and Kevin Hart. Spoilt terrier Max has a wonderful life with his owner. However, everything changes when she takes in another dog, a huge stray called Duke. The two don’t get along from the moment they meet, which leads to a series of incidents that results in them both getting lost across the city. Now they must rely on a number of strange and wacky animals to find their way back home.

INDEPENDEN­CE DAY: RESURGENCE (2016) Channel 4, 8pm

Roland Emmerich’s long-awaited sci-fi sequel, starring Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman. It has been two decades since the people of Earth united to fight off the alien invasion. However, the peace is shattered when the extraterre­strials return with an even-more-powerful arsenal.
