Poll shows Deliveroo riders are delivering work elsewhere
DELIVEROO, the online food delivery company, has released results of an Irish rider poll which shows more than 70pc of those delivering for the company have additional work commitments, primarily in office work or hospitality.
The poll, released by the London-based company, was published as Deliveroo celebrated partnering with its 5,000th rider since establishing in Ireland in 2015.
Deliveroo said it currently has 1,000 riders regularly working for the company here.
Poll results released by Deliveroo, which was founded in 2013 by former investment banker Will Shu, show 50pc of its riders are also students, with the majority of its riders also working fewer than 15 hours per week.
Some 84pc said the most valuable aspect of working for Deliveroo was flexibility, followed by “working for yourself ”, which
57pc supported. Almost a third of all riders took a month off between deliveries last year. Deliveroo said this highlighted how riders could “set their own schedules”.
Deliveroo, which had revenues of €9.2m here last year, recently called for updates to employment legislation which would allow companies operating in the on-demand economy to establish a charter for flexible and secure work. The charter would enable companies to offer self-employed contractors additional benefits, such as insurance, without compromising their employment status.
Michael Healy, Deliveroo’s manager for Ireland, said the number of riders working for it showed how popular it had become here.
