The loves of my LIFE

The person

My mum, Noreen. She’s the rock of our family and is always there to give her advice whenever we need it. Although she lives in Liverpool and I don’t see her as often as we would like, she rings me every day to see how I’m doing and what I’m up to.

The memory

October, 29, 2018 — walking on stage for my first ever headline show in Vicar Street, Dublin. That’s a gig and a memory I won’t be forgetting for a long time.

The moment of the day

I am actually quite a morning person. When the alarm goes off, whether it’s 5am or 9am, I am straight up and into the shower; then I have coffee, and Weetabix, and I’m ready to tackle the day ahead. I hate hitting snooze or turning the alarm off, as it just starts the day off on a bad note. I do love a good lie-in, but I don’t mind getting up and out if I need to.

The song

My new single, I Won’t Be Leaving, which is out now! I’m joking! I’d choose Imagine by John Lennon.

The movie

The Harry Potter films are my favourite. If I had to pick a favourite out of them, it would probably be Harry Potter and the

Goblet of Fire, but I love them all. I’ve yet to read the books, but I keep saying one day I will.

The book

I have currently just finished Robbie Williams’s biography, Reveal, by Chris Heath, and I really enjoyed it.

The outfit

A slim-fit white T-shirt, worn with black skinny jeans, and a brown leather jacket.

The celebrity

Paul McCartney, he grew up just around the corner from were I did. It’s crazy to think of everything he has achieved in his career.

The accessory

I have a guitar chain that was made from stone at a little stall in a village called Old Deniz in Turkey. The first one I had was from about 12 years ago, which I got when I was on holidays. However, I lost it last year. My mum then surprised me on my birthday with a new one from the exact same stall that she had gone and bought. Its only a bit of rope and a little guitar-shaped stone, but it’s the sentimental value that makes it so special.

The gadget

Probably my phone. Although I use it for ordinary everyday stuff like phone calls, messages and social media, I also use it for my work every day. I have my calendar with everything coming up on it; I use the notes page to write lyric ideas down; I listen to Spotify all the time for inspiration and to hear what’s new in the world of pop music; I use the voice recorder to record any melodies that pop into my head — the list is endless.

The advice

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.

The pet hate

People who don’t have manners.

Manners cost nothing, as my mum always says, and I hate it when people are rude. Even not saying ‘thank you’ really grates on me.

The friend

My best friend is Paul Cassidy.

I have known him since we were both in reception [the equivalent of junior infants] in school. He still lives in Liverpool — however, we would be in contact most days, and he comes over to visit me every few months.

The beauty product

Kennedy & Co’s Revitalising Eye Gel it’s a game-changer.

— The drink Amaretto and Coke. The bar

Eric’s, on Mathew Street in Liverpool. It’s opposite from the old Cavern Club.

The virtue

Working hard and never giving up.

The vice

I tend to judge people before I meet them, which is something I’m working on changing in myself.

The smell

I love the smell of burning matches and fire. That makes me sound extremely weird. I love a good candle, too.

The taste

I love a Terry’s Chocolate Orange.
