Pat’s girl Faye follows him into limelight as he directs first film

- Eoin Murphy Pat Shortt’s new stage show ‘Hey!’ will debut at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre in January

PAT Shortt is preparing to step behind the camera to direct his first movie, which will star his daughter Faye in the lead role.

At 51, the comedian and actor is ready to take his career to the next level, having written his first short film — which he will direct next year. And he has cast his daughter Faye in the lead role as she follows her father into the limelight.

“I have written a short film, which I am going to direct next year,” he told the Sunday Independent. “I’m really excited about that, because my daughter is going to be involved. I am mad to work with her and it will be the first time we will have worked together on anything and it won’t be the last.”

The viewing public will get their first glimpse of

Faye Shortt this Christmas when she stars in a Gogglebox-style reality TV show for RTE: “We did a TV show together, which is the two of us on a sofa, one of those Gogglebox-style programmes, and we were watching old Christmas commercials.”

Pat says he has no worries about his daughter following in his footsteps.

“I am not worried about her becoming an actor, to be honest,” he said. “A lot has changed since I started out in relation to respect for women. The #MeToo scenario has been revolutionary. But I am fully aware that casting couch culture doesn’t go away, it is like paedophilia. You just educate yourself to watch out for it.

“That’s what Faye has done and she will cope with it and not put up with s**t. And from that point of view, I hope she has a good experience.”
