Bord Bia to bite into Irish fast food sustainability research
BORD Bia has invited companies to tender for a consumer research project on sustainability in ‘quick-service’ restaurants.
The research from Bord Bia, the State agency focused on promoting Ireland’s food and drink industry at home and abroad , is being led by its strategic insight and planning team.
The study is seeking to understand how sustainability concerns are affecting consumer behaviour in ‘quick-service’ restaurants.
Bord Bia wants to understand what is going to shape the future agenda when it comes to sustainability in fast food, so that it can help Irish food and drink businesses continue to act as leading suppliers.
According to the tender documents, issued last week, Bord Bia is looking to establish a “firm understanding of consumer influences” in fast food restaurants, particularly around matters of sustainability, to aid future planning and product development. The objective is to help Irish businesses facilitate better “commercial conversations” with customers.
The research is set to test the effect of sustainability claims in the sector, including grass-based livestock diets, recyclable packaging and animal welfare.
From the results, Bord Bia will develop pitches for beef, dairy, and other food and beverage categories supplying this sector.
Bord Bia said it would like to conduct the work in key European markets, including Ireland, the UK, France and Germany.
The research is set to begin next month, with the aim of wrapping up by the end of February next year.
