Perfect place to propose, but not the perfect time

-

LOCATION. Location. Location. The much-loved 2FM superstar and all-round good egg Eoghan McDermott was in Fiji for almost two months, filming the Australian edition of

Love Island. Our Eoghan is the narrator.

Disappointingly, the narrative here doesn’t include him asking beautiful girlfriend Aoife Melia to be his wife on the golden sands in the South Pacific archipelago. This is despite Aoife jetting out to spend time with him there and in Australia.

Eoghan — who flew back from Fiji via Sydney and Dubai last Wednesday and is back on 2FM this Thursday — explained why he didn’t ask one of the most beautiful women in

Ireland to marry him in one of the most beautiful spots in the world — their very own love island, if you will.

All this and a certain famous beach in Australia too...

“We rented an Airbnb down by Bondi Beach, which we adored. Fiji was the idyllic tropical serenity setting and Bondi was the cosmopolitan bustle. We had Bondi pegged as a tacky tourist spot but we were way off. The beach itself is magnificent and the surrounding properties are as stunning as they are unaffordable. It’s absolutely beautiful.”

As is Aoife. So why didn’t the DJ, who is almost as famous and charismatic as the pop stars he interviews on the wireless, pop the question?

“Aoife’s sister Roseanne got engaged very recently,” Eoghan replied. “So although a lot of people were speculating on our Instagram posts, this was not the trip!

“Also, in spite of the idyllic setting, I was working a lot of the two weeks she was there.

“So if I was going to ask abroad, I’d rather she had my undivided attention in the run-up and aftermath. She reflects the best version of myself back to me. So I better hurry up!”

Taking to Instagram, Eoghan shared a series of snaps of the pristine white sands and turquoise waters of the tropical paradise.

It’s a far cry from the frankly bleak landscape in Ireland, where we’re battening down the hatches in case of snowfall next week.
