The little pup with big ambition

- Brian Kennedy, Burtonport, Co Donegal

HI everybody in Ireland and around the world reading today’s Sunday Independent as you admire my picture.

I am a two-year-old gorgeous-looking little male Chihuahua called Mise and I weigh 2.4kg. I came second in the Meenacross dog show recently but should have come first, as I believe I am definitely a superior pedigree.

I love getting my picture taken and posing for photos such as with the recently crowned Mary at the Mary From Dungloe festival in Donegal. I did feel a bit sorry for her as everybody kept saying how gorgeous I was, but that’s life and we all can’t be perfect, as I told her.

Leaving my perfection to one side for a while, I love doing a bit of ‘scutting’ every now and then, such as the odd piddle on the floor and waiting for a reaction from my two-legged Mam.

I love my Mam very much. She is a great laugh and always makes excuses for me, like saying, I should have let you out earlier or taken you for a longer walk — and she’s not knowing it’s the ‘scut’ coming out in me, ha, ha.

My Mam makes great dinners for me, and my favourite is liver and potatoes, I like chicken with potatoes too. I also have to eat dried food which comes in a bag — and I hate when Mam tells me how good it is for me because it contains the correct balance of vitamins and minerals, I never see her eating it.

I hate when I have to go to the vet as they are always poking and prodding and just can’t keep their hands to themselves. And now one of the family is after turning into a vet — which has made life very hard for me at times.

It’s only fair that I give a mention to Lady, the other dog that lives in our house. Lady is not a pedigree like me, only half Chihuahua-half Jack Russell, but we still have great fun, running and chasing each other on the sandy beaches. She always wins because she is bigger than me and twice my weight, so I don’t like when she runs fast after me and knocks me over.

She laughs at me and says I am not going to grow any bigger. I don’t believe her. Some day I can see myself as big as a Rottweiler and she won’t be laughing then.
