Flynn McGarry’s New York

- In conversation with Sarah Caden

If I had just a weekend in New York,

I would stay in Soho or the Lower East Side, as you’re by the best restaurants and close to anything in Manhattan, and it’s convenient to go to Brooklyn, too.

I would start Friday night at The Ten Bells in the Lower East Side.

It’s a natural wine bar that’s always a good way to start the night.

Then I’d end up going to Frenchette in Tribeca

for a delicious, long dinner, and either have a nightcap at Dante for the best Negroni in New York or call it a night.

On Saturday, I would go uptown and go to The Met Breuer,

the cool, contemporary branch of The Met on Madison Avenue. Then I’d eat lunch at their great restaurant, Flora Bar.

The Met Breuer is right by Central Park,

so you could stroll through the park after lunch, then head back downtown to the Nolita neighbourhood to do some shopping.

On a Saturday night, I would maybe start with a drink and a movie

at Metrograph — which only plays older, curated movies — then move around the corner to Cervo’s for a dinner of delicious seafood and Spanish wines. The night would finish with drinks at The Bowery.

I’m not a big Sunday breakfast person,

soI would probably just get a coffee and a pastry, and use the last of my time to walk around New York before going to the airport. New York chef Flynn McGarry was in Dublin for Three’s Connected Restaurant, connecting Dublin and NYC for the festive season. See theconnectedrestaurant.com
