Weekender

Paula Callan’s Los Angeles

- In conversation with Sarah Caden

If I could choose anywhere to spend the weekend, it would have to be in LA with my best friend, fellow make-up artist Kate Synnott, who lives there.

I don’t get to see Kate that much as she lives so far away, but we visit one another when time allows. She’s just had her first baby, so I can’t wait to get over there again and have loads of baby snuggles.

I’d stay with Kate at her house, and on Friday evening, we’d probably go for cocktails at the Culver Hotel, which is close to where she lives with her husband, Dave. I’d also try to meet up with my other Irish friend, Niamh, who’s just moved to California.

On the Saturday, we’d go shopping. Sephora and Hourglass are my first stops. Abbot Kinney is a really cool shopping destination for quirky boutiques.

Saturday night is definitely a night out in West Hollywood. An early evening dinner and drinks in Catch LA are a must, followed by late drinks in Delilah’s. LA shuts at 2am, unless you find an after-party.

We’d head off to Malibu on the Sunday. It is so peaceful just sitting by the sea listening to the waves. We’d go to Nobu for lunch, and Soho House, which Kate’s husband runs, is a must for cocktails and a good old girlie catch-up.

If the party is still going into the evening, we round off the weekend in Santa Monica, with drinks at The Bungalow.
