Ian and Carol in no Rush for their big day

- BARRY EGAN

Forget Vorsprung durch Technik. Try Vorsprung durch Liebe. Liverpool football deity Ian Rush and beautiful Irish girlfriend Carol Anthony are jetting to Berlin for St Valentine’s.

Is that where they are planning to get married? Will Liverpool’s German manager Jürgen Klopp be there to give them away?

Alas, not. It is merely a romantic night away for the couple, who have been inseparable since 2013 and got engaged last March — they revealed the good news exclusively in this column.

So, if not in Berlin on Valentine’s Day, when are the golden couple planning on getting married?

“When Liverpool win the league!” laughs Carol, who is from Cork but lives in London and Cheshire with the one-time King of the Kop, who scored a club record of 346 goals in 660 appearances once upon a time. “I’m only joking, but we’re just looking to get enough time or a good clear run in the diary to plan and enjoy it properly.

“We are more in love than ever,” she continues, “That’s blatantly obvious. He is my best friend. We support each other.”

They are in Dublin on February 1 for the Shabra Charity Foundation annual event at Leopardstown Races. “Ian is a patron. We raised over €700,000 for the Mater Hospital last year. It is always a great day and this year will be no exception. Ian loves Ireland. And he loves coming to Ireland with me,” says Carol, adding that they were in Qatar last month.

“I was doing a bit of business out there and filming a documentary on the run-up to the World Cup. The Ian Rush Foundation also travelled to Pakistan before that.”

Carol and Ian were then in Mauritius for a romantic holiday late last December.

“We rang in the New Year in Mauritius. It was magical. We also did Reiki there in preparation for the wedding, and now Ian is officially an ambassador for Air Mauritius and the tourism board. So it makes sense,” Carol says, presumably meaning that she and Ian will be getting married in May in Mauritius in the Indian Ocean when Ian’s beloved Liverpool end their 30-year wait for a league title, and lift the Premier League trophy?

Either that, or in the centre circle at Anfield, home of Liverpool FC, at half-time at a game of Carol’s choice?

Personally, I think they have waited this long that there is no Rush.
