IMMA has reopened with a new tented area, The People’s Pavilion, and social distancing circles where friends and families can meet. The outdoor programme will focus on art trails, the gardens and pop-up events, which will include collaborations with community groups and artist collectives from midJuly, as well as a new pop-up café, The Flying Dog. The galleries are reopening in phases, beginning with the Freud Project, which examines the work of Lucian Freud. Also opening is the archive exhibition, IMMA Archive: 1990s, From the Edge to the Centre, and on July 21, the long-awaited exhibition by British-Indian artist Bharti Kher, A Consummate Joy, arrives. Entry is free but by ticketed timeslot. www.imma.ie.
Pandemic-friendly Kinsale Arts Week returns from July 10-12 with highlights including a drive-in theatre adaptation of a Dublin madam’s memoirs, and a virtual choral performance of poet Derek Mahon’s Everything Is Going To Be Alright. This year’s summer operatic event, in support of the Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition, goes digital with Opera Online at Killruddery House next Sunday at 3pm. The concert is broadcast from The Orangery and since 2005 has been a highlight of the summer calendar at Killdruddery House. It features Rachel Croash (soprano), Gemma Ni Bhriain (mezzo-soprano), Gavan Ring (tenor), Rory Musgrave (baritone) and pianist Dearbhla Collins. The Doorway Gallery in Dublin 2 launches an online exhibition, Getting to Know Michael Steinbrick, New Artist tomorrow at 3pm. And with its new app, you can virtually hang one of Steinbrick’s paintings in your own home.
