Errigal to invest £20m in new Brexit strategy
125 new jobs to be created on a 70-acre Antrim site, as well as 40 in Monaghan, writes Sean Pollock
ERRIGAL Contracts, a Monaghan-based construction company, has announced it has purchased a 70-acre site in County Antrim as part of a £20m (€22m) three-year Brexit strategy.
The company is planning to invest the sum over the next three years to develop the site, which is located at the former Enkalon industrial estate. Errigal has plans to create a centre of excellence for off-site construction and is also set to add 125 jobs to its workforce of 325.
Within the 70 acres, 30 acres will include a functioning distribution warehouse centre. Errigal plans to develop this site with support from Invest NI, while building on its innovative off-site construction processes.
The team is also planning on working with its supply chain to encourage other companies to locate around the site, complementing Errigal’s off-site construction development.
The site will also include a residential development to meet local demand for housing across 15 acres as well as create a host of jobs in the Mid-Ulster area.
Speaking with the Sunday Independent, Cormac McCloskey, who heads up Errigal alongside Damian Treanor, said the company also had plans to extend its headquarters in Monaghan. He said the extension, which will include a new 100,000 sq ft warehouse, could lead to the creation of around 40 new jobs over the next two years.
McCloskey said the Co Antrim investment had come at an exciting time for the company.
“We have extensive experience in off-site construction, and it is our aim to develop the site into a centre for excellence in off-site construction, benefiting our clients across the UK, Ireland and Europe,” he said.
“It allows for early collaboration, and a lot of sectors are seeing the benefits of this, such as healthcare and education. It is becoming increasingly important to do as much construction as possible off-site, reducing the number of people required on-site to install works.”
Errigal was founded over twenty years ago in London and is now headquartered in Monaghan, with offices in Derry, London, Amsterdam and Zurich.
To date, Errigal has completed over 320 construction projects valued at more than £500m across 12 countries including the UK, Ireland, Belgium, Austria, Slovenia, Germany, Holland, France, Switzerland and Denmark.
According to a statement, Errigal has also more than doubled its turnover since 2016. It has grown from £52.4m in 2016 to £116.2m in 2019, with a healthy operating profit in the last year of £7.1m.
Errigal has also been involved in several prominent residential developments in recent years including One Tower Bridge in London, Central Park Apartments in Dublin, Circle Square in Manchester and 1 Palace Street, London.
The company also worked on the World’s tallest residential building in Mumbai, India, over five years.
