The ability to respond and not react
Words have always fascinated me — their impact, meaning and ability to change an atmosphere in a room in a matter of seconds. Breaking down words and truly understanding their meaning has become a focused area of research for me these past few years, as I continue to study transformation, energy and vibration. The word ‘spelling’ comes from the understanding that when we speak and use words, we are literally casting a spell on either ourselves or those we speak about. The word ‘responsibility’ broken down means our ability to respond. We are trained to react, and reactions are usually automatic, and we usually don’t even notice when we are reacting. Responding, though, is different, as it requires a level of awareness and an agreement within to take full responsibility. This is a crucial and important step on the path of healing, transformation and growth.
After all, if you are simply reacting to the world, it means the enemy is still ‘out there’. Having struggled with addictions for many years, I know only too well the path of refusing to accept full responsibility. My journey to the land of freedom, however, required me to take full responsibility for my actions, choices, and therefore the current results I was experiencing in my life. There is an old saying: “If there is no enemy within, the enemy without can do you no harm.” Taking responsibility and facing inwards towards this enemy will shine a light on the world outside and you will begin to see things in a completely different way. When you do, responsibility might not seem so bad after all.
