Fishmonger extraordinaire Niall Sabongi has teamed up with chef Karl Whelan, of Hang Dai in Camden Street, Dublin, to open Saltwater Grocery in the former Downey’s Butchers at 97 Terenure Road East in midMarch. “We will be a fish shop like no other,” says Sabongi, “and a full-on grocer stocking as many Irish products as we can.”

The new Sherwood
Lane restaurant, in James Sheridan’s former Canteen premises in Celbridge, Co Kildare, is open for takeaways and deliveries Wednesday Sunday, and includes the Sunday roast. Sheridan now has his excellent Canteen at the Marlin Hotel in Bow Lane, Dublin. sherwoodlane.ie
Waseem Saeed and his wife Rahat, of the fab Daata restaurant in Greystones, are spreading their wings to Glasthule, Co Dublin, opening shortly in the former Carluccio’s opposite the car park. Reminiscent of the old Irani cafes of the Indian subcontinent, Daata Greystones also does great brunches at weekends. So, hopefully we can look forward to chilling in their Glasthule branch on Sunday mornings. daata.ie
