St Gerard’s girls quick off the mark at Games Finals

-

THE National Community Games Finals took place in Athlone last weekend where St Gerard’s athletes Grainne Moran, Ciara Cunningham, Patience and Patricia Jumbo-Gula and Caitlin Mulholland represented Louth against the bestin the country.

Grainne Moran powered through the heats and semi finals impressively in the U8 girls 60m. In the final she once again showed her class with another great display of speed and determination to take a fantastic silver medal for this young star.

Ciara Cunningham performed really well in the U10 girls 80m despite having another year in this age group. No doubt she will be back for more next year and the experience will stand her in good stead.

Patience Jumbo-Gula came through the heats and semi-finals to make the U16 girls 100m showing the form that has won her so many honours this season.

With two year age grouping it means that she was up against athletes some of whom were almost 2 years older than her.

If that wasn’t difficult enough add into the mix the hot favourite European Youth Olympic champion Ciara Neville of Limerick the task was going to be tough.

Despite this Patience showed her immense potential chasing home the brilliant Neville for a great silver medal winning performance to bring another great season to a close.

Caitlin Mulholland took on the U16 girls 7k marathon. Once again she gave another strong display against the best distance runners in the country over a tough distance for these young athletes. She can now look forward to the upcoming cross country season confident of her form.

Patricia Jumbo-Gula teamed up with Aoibhin McMahon, Sarah Clarke and Hannah Reilly for the U14 girls 4 x 100m relay. The girls brilliantly made it to the final with a fine 2nd in their semi-final. In the decider they once again performed brilliantly to take a fine bronze medal in 3rd place.

Next weekend the Annual Ardee Open Sports take place on Sunday.
