The O’Hagan family from Dundalk has helped Ireland win silver medals at the Home International for Ladies Flyfishing in Scotland thanks to two sisters being on the team, that’s managed by their dad.
Well-known angler Fred O’Hagan was very proud of his two daughters Lisa and Orlaith after they qualified for the Irish Ladies Flyfishing Team and they are members of the Dundalk and District Brown Trout and Salmon Angler’s Association. The family is actively involved in the club’s activities including the training of youth teams. Fred is also the manager of the Irish ladies team, and travelled to Scotland with the team last week and assisted them in bringing home silver medals from the international.
Lisa gained her third cap for Ireland in fly- fishing and is among the top rods for ladies flyfishing in Ireland. She is also an accomplished river angler and enjoys many days fishing on the River Fane with Fred and Orlaith.
Orlaith qualified for the Irish team through their trials system around lakes in Ireland last year, but through her commitments to her teaching post at St. Joseph’s NS, she was unsure of being able to travel with the team at this time of year and ultimately took a reserve place, but would have travelled if called on.
Lisa and Orlaith are fishing trials for next year’s International Ladies Flyfishing team, with the Home International for Ladies to held on Lough Melvin in June 2017.
Prior to leaving for Scotland, the Irish team were invited to Aras an Uachtarain to meet President Michael D. Higgins. Lisa with her parents Fred and Pat enjoyed the occasion.
