DUNDALK dance students will get their first taste of ‘Cirque De Soleil’ with the Malone Dance Academy’s new programme of classes.

Led by Cheryl Malone, who is Ireland’s first level 1 and 2 certified acrobatic arts teacher, the academy have successfully introduced these classes to the dance studio in Dundalk .

The school began the program in October 2015 and are now about to welcome Canadian examiners to their studios in October 2016.

Cheryl explained that acrobatic arts is a Canadian based organization that provide worldwide training and certification for acroDance.

‘ This organization have a working relationship with Cirque du Soilel, one of the most famous and internationally established acrobatic performance groups,’ said Cheryl.

‘Cirque du Soilel were actually consulted when this program was being created, therefore, ensuring that the program was of outstanding quality.’

The program is based on safe and effective progressions with proven results in five division of acrodance: flexibility, strength, balancing, limbering and tumbling.

‘ The program is very similar to anyone wanting to study gymnastic skills. The difference is with the acrobatic arts program students are trained to perform their tricks on a stage floor without the need for any equipment,’ said Cheryl.

‘Dancers who train through acrobatic arts have balanced development , are stronger, more flexible and fearless. Studios that implement this program will see dancers with more skills who have fewer accidents and are less likely to develop chronic injuries.’

Cheryl launched her dance school in Dundalk eleven years ago, and offers training in many genres such as ballet, jazz, and musical theatre.

‘All examinations are with reputable and government recognized organizations, meaning that as the students enjoy a hobby they are also enhancing their academic portfolio too.’
