Elaine awarded Veterinary Student of the Year 2016
DKIT student,Elaine Hughes has been awarded Veterinary Nurse Student of the Year 2016 by the Irish Veterinary Nursing Association (IVNA).
The IVNA Awards are presented each year to three exceptional individuals who go above and beyond the call of duty for their patients and pet owners.
Elaine was nominated for the honour by a family in Swords in recognition of the ‘care, kindness and dedication’ she demonstrated while nursing their seriously ill golden retriever puppy, Marley back to health.
During her student work placement at Lissenhall Veterinary Practice Swords, Elaine also displayed a high degree of compassion and professionalism when caring for the same family’s terminally ill kitten.
Elaine is a third year student in DkIT’s B.Sc in Veterinary Nursing, a NFQ level 7 course in veterinary nursing which is accredited by the Veterinary Council of Ireland ( VCI) and provides students with diverse veterinary and scientific knowledge and skills which enables them to work as professional registered veterinary nurses (RVNs) both in Ireland and the rest of Europe. DkIT has a long history of success in producing award winning veterinary nursing graduates and Elaine is the fourth student in five years to win the award.
Commenting on the award, Doireann Dowling, Lecturer in Veterinary Nursing at DkIT said; ‘We are thrilled that Elaine has been awarded Veterinary Nursing Student of the Year 2016 by the IVNA.’
