Five-star Redeemer issue loud warning

SOCCER DUNDALK SUMMER LEAGUE

-

throw-in by Gladyz to score Redeemer’s third goal in the closing stages.

Talisman Mickey O’Kane along with David Mahoney were introduced for the second –half, as the cup holders set about trying to redeem the game, but though they went close on a number of occasions Gladyz delivered the fatal blow with another of his touchline missiles from near half way for this time Barry Grimes to streak through and make it 4-0 after 65 minutes.

Muirhevnamor’s 100 per cent start to the campaign was now definitely over and it was inevitable that Redeemer would replace them as league leaders. The only question was how wide would be the winning margin.

The same two players answered that combining to tear open the Muirhevnamor defence again five minutes later down the right to provide Ryan Dillon with a simple tap-in from Gladyz’s low cross.

It could well have been wider with Gladyz thwarted by a great save by David Cooney, but Muirhevnamor had their chances with Dane Harrison bringing off a great save form Gary Clarke and then managed with his finger tips to keep out Brendan Hughes header with striker Dillon popping up on his own goal line to fully relieve the danger.

It was a game that Redeemer was in full cry and little went right for the cup holders. If Mickey O’Kane had started would it have been a different story? It was hard to see Redeemer in the mood they were in being stopped.

Paul Mallon in the heart of the losers defence tried his hardest to the end, but he was one of the exceptions in the side who performed to the level he is capable. Goalkeeper David Cooney was faultless for the goals and saved the side from a bigger trouncing, while O’Kane did his utmost to find a way back into the game for the side in the second half, but it was a hopeless task.
