Elderly man dies days after accident

THE funeral of 83 year old John Byrne is set to take place tomorrow ( Wednesday) almost two weeks after he was seriously injured in a collision along the Avenue Road.

The Cluan Enda resident was cycling along the road on the morning of June 9th when the accident, involving a car, took place.

He was transferre­d to hospital suffering from serious injuries sustained in the collision, and despite all efforts passed away at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital on Friday last.

There was much sadness at the loss of the popular local man, and particular­ly among his loving family. John is survived by his loving wife Doreen (nee) Dullaghan sons Sean, Aiden and Ronan and daugh- ter Felicity, brothers Micheal and Hugh sisters Mairead Mc Court (New Jersey), Olive Lennon and Briege Lennon, sonsin-law, daughters-in-law, grandchild­ren, great-grandchild, nephews and nieces.

He was sadly predecease­d by his brothers Tommy, Joe, Gerard and Frank and sister Agnes Clarke.

Reposing at his residence from 11am Tuesday morning until 10pm Tuesday night, the removal will take place tomorrow ( Wednesday) morning at 10.30am proceeding on foot to St. Joseph’s Redemptori­st Church arriving for funeral mass at 11am. Following the ceremony, burial will take place afterwards in Calvary Cemetery, Ravensdale.
