THE organisers of this year’s Erin’s Run which took place in Termonfeckin back in February have thanked all those who participated and helped to raise enough money to provide a new profiling bed for the fifth floor in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.

Almost 700 people registered for the run and more than 500 people turned out on the day.

Erin passed away in September 2014 aged just six and her family have organised Erin’s Run in her memory each year to raise funds for the charities and services involved in helping her during her short life. ‘I’d like to thank every man, woman, child & dog that participated!,’ said Erin’s Mum Tara. ‘We were raising funds this year for the 5th floor in Our Lady of Lourdes, hospital in Drogheda where Erin spent much of her short life.

‘We wanted to be able to give something practical to the ward, something we knew would make a difference and so we choose a special profiling bed which is an essential piece of equipment for someone who is immobile, and for those chil- dren extremely ill.’

‘As we were raising for the hospital and not a registered charity, like last year, we were unable to provide sponsorship cards so that hit our fundraising efforts hard. Despite this, some €8,500 was raised.

Tara went on to make a special request to the public for a sponsor for Erin’s Run 2017, which would help with the small but significant oveheads. Any local business interested is asked to contact the facebook page, Erins Run or emailtaracurran76@gmail.com.
