Memorable outing for Tom

-

The Green Gates golf society travelled to Greenore for their second outing of the year and it was a memorable one for the in-form Tom Lawlor with his first outright victory, He won his category in the first outing at Mannan Castle,

Tom joined the society in the last few years and showed his pedigree as a low single figure handicapper by mastering the challenging course with it’s picturesque setting alongside Carlingford Lough and mountain backdrop.

Admittedly the 28 members who played got the course at its most benign but also most beautiful with hardly a puff of wind. The competition was sponsored by the Black Wok.

The other prize-winners were: Category 1, Oliver English Christy Ward.

Category 2, Anthony Tuite; Eamon Trainor.

Category 3, Brendan Sharkey; Chris Connolly.

The society started the season in Mannan Castle, with the Bayview Inn sponsors on the day. The results were as follows: Winner, Declan Rafferty. Category 1, Tom Lawlor; Christy Ward.

Category 2, Gerry Watters; Garry Lennon.

Category 3, Padraig Farrell; Dave Freeman. Longest drive, Chris Connolly. Nearest the Pin, Ed Smyth. The outing at Dundalk, which was cancelled earlier in the season, has been refixed for this Saturday June 25, and is sponsored by Rafferty Fine Foods.
