Under-16s’ date with destiny
HAVING fought their way to a Leinster final, Louth under-16s take on Westmeath for the right to represent Leinster in the All Ireland ‘B’ Championship in July.
The Louth girls have shown serious ability over the past few years and are now representing the county at its highest level in many years.
Credit must go to the application of the squad of thirty under the supervision of a dedicated management team of Chris Doyle, John Carr, Michelle Lowth and Trish Duffy.
In 2014, the team finished top of Division 2 in Leinster and went on to compete in the All Ireland ‘C’ Championship final.
On the day they were beaten by a Limerick team who came from behind as injuries scuppered the Louth challenge on the day.
Their success in that year guaranteed them promotion to Leinster Division 1 at under 16 level this year and they competed hard to remain there.
The competition in Leinster has proven to be of a very high standard with Louth finishing joint fourth on three points with Longford and Laois behind Meath, Dublin and Kildare.
As a result Meath go on to compete against Dublin in the ‘A’ Championship final with the other four Division One counties competing against the top four Division Two teams in the ‘B’ Championship qualifiers.
Louth have advanced to the final with wins over Wicklow and Longford, while Westmeath earned their place with wins over Kildare and Wexford.
The final takes place on Sunday next 26th June in Clane, Co.Kildare, with a throw in of 1.30pm and the management team are looking forward to good support on the day to cheer the team on.
