Records tumble for Blackrock thrower
ANOTHER hectic weekend brought another tranche of excellent results for Blackrock AC as the Harriers Stadium in Tullamore hosted the Leinster Championships last weekend.
There is just no stopping Aoibhin McMahon at the moment as she was on top form yet again, taking home three gold medals in the U14 girls competition. Two of them came in record breaking style in the shot putt and the javelin.
Her sister Shauna also put in a terrific performance in the U17s and was unlucky not to bring home some silverware.
It was a Blackrock one-two as Aoife O’Brien finished second in the U14 javelin just behind Aiobhin with some terrific throwing.
Neasa Reilly made her return to the track to finish third in the U14 1500m and finishing strong but just outside the medals in the 800m. Hannah Reilly put in a fantastic effort to finish fifth in the final of the U15 100m after a slip out of the blocks. The weather had been awful all day and this result was a wonderful considering the testing conditions. UHannah Reilly worked immensely hard on the day, competing in the long jump and the 200m, while she was also part of the winning Louth relay team. Laura Jane Hearty took part in the long jump and hurdles and put in a fine effort. She got off to a good start but hit her knee on the second hurdle which put her out of the race.
Sarah Morgan took part in the U15 100m just missing out on a place in the final but on Saturday she finished fifth in the 200m final.
Sarah Clarke ran well in the 100m but it was in her shot putt that she did really well finishing fourth in Leinster and securing herself a place in the nationals. In the U16 races Donnacha Hughes and Kelly Breen put in strong performances and were very unlucky not to come away with medals.
