Artist in residence plans to explore Louth heritage
AN Táin arts centre has announced the recipient of the inaugural emerging artist in residency award as Úna Curley, a mixed media artist based in Carrickmacross.
She grew up in Kerry, and studied at NCAD, graduating with a first class (hons) degree in Textile Art and Artefact.
This was the culmination of a long journey of exploring art as a language of expression.
Having previously attained a BA (Hons) Mgt from the IMI and an MSc Communication from Queens University, Úna was still curious about the intent or meaning beyond words; in particular, the complexities of stories, concepts, words, thoughts and feelings and the expression thereof.
During her residency, she plans to explore the rich heritage of County Louth for inspiration and developing ideas. Through collaboration and some community involvement she will create new works and will be exhibiting to visitors in August/September.
‘An Táin arts centre’s summer residency programme is open to recent graduates and artists at the start of their career looking to establish a collaborative practice in a community setting.
‘ The aim of the residency is to assist artists to research and develop new work and give them the time and space to develop their practice,’ said An Táin assistant manager, Elaine Cronin.
