ON Friday night I headed for Byrne’s bar in Hill Street where the Louth County Council’s Social Club were having one of their ‘night’s out’ and this I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here themed night was in full swing by the time we got there.

I was lucky enough to meet up with the organising committee who included ‘Marathon Man’ Andy Califf from St. Alphonsus Road, Gayle Commins from Tallanstown, Karen Owens from Hill View and Tracy Ross from York Street had put together yet another of their exceptional nights and the place was really buzzing by the time we got there.

Next I caught up with Paddy and Mary Donnelly from Belfry Gardens who assured me they wouldn’t be getting involved in any Bush Tucker Challenge, sure isn’t Paddy a big enough celebrity as he is!

Making my way over to an adjacent table I then caught up with Paul McGuill from Saltown who was having a laugh with Caroline Moran from Avenue Road, Una McGahon from The Meadows and Christine McCourt from Avenue Road who told me it was always a brilliant night when the social club were out together, their last outing was to Glasnevin Cemetery form the 1916 celebrations and their 1980s night was something that they still talk about.

Also in their company were Benny and Patricia Lynch from Willow Grove whom I didn’t recognised from the Clans Centenary Ball the previous week, but strangely enough I could remember where they were sitting? They told me t I was going to be a great night for sure.

After this I headed over for a chat with Noelene Burke from Dublin Road who was with Ann Keelan from St. Marys Road, Jim Duffy from Bishops Court and Michael McDonnell from Fr. Murray Park and Jim told me the it was going to be a cracking night and they may even manage a few Jamaicans before the night was out, rums I guessed?

Not too long later I then met up with Clare and John O’Hagan from Omeath who were with Jacqui and Raymond Guest from The Valley who told me it was going to be anything but a quiet night and they were really looking forward to it.

Next I caught up with my old friend Brian Martin from Ard Easmuinn who was with Eugene and Patricia Birch from Manydown Close, Martin Reilly from Carrickmacross and Kathleen Birch from Faughart who assured me they’d not be having a go but would definitely cheer on any of the Bush Tucker contestants!

After this I got a word with Tiona Faapito from Bay Estate, Sharon Dunne from Kilcurry who were sitting with Wayne Macken and Emma McKeever both from Louth Village and Wayne was to banish the thought of Ashling Park. They had caught sight of Ant and Dec but didn’t know anything about any challenges that lay ahead later on.

I then headed for the snug where I caught up with Rosie O’Reilly from Dunmor who was there with Vicki Chadwick from Omeath and Benedicta McArdle from Mooretown who told me the Social Club nights were always great fun.

Seated close by I then caught up with Celia and Seamus McParland from Greenore who told me that I’d met their daughter Niamh at the Goretti Girls Launch a few weeks ago and said they were continuing their fundraising for their trip to Kraków for World Youth Day with a car boot sale on July 1st and a Table Quiz on July 8th both in the Cooley Kickhams Complex and everyone was welcome to come along and lend their support!

After this I met up with Tracy McGuinness from Manydown Close who was with Annamarie McKeown from Kilkerley who was with husband Padraig who had just won a major spot prize and would definitely be getting the next round in. They were having a great laugh with Siobhan and Gerry McDonald from Dromiskin.

It was time for me to depart, but not before a special presentation was made to Phillis O’Neill from Blackrock who was retiring form the Louth County Council after 32 years there and she was given a huge send off!
