LEADING cash and carry wholesaler Value Centre has announced an investment of €5 million in the development of a new stateof-the-art facility in a former factory site on the Ecco Road, merging the network’s existing sites in Dundalk and Carrickmacross.

The works are scheduled to be completed in October this year and will see all staff from the existing two sites transfer to a new location.

The new Value Centre will be situated in the former Littelfuse building on the Ecco Road in Dundalk, which has been idle since 2006 when the electronic manufacturing business was moved to China after 40 years in the town.

The site will span 60,000sq ft, allowing Value Centre Dundalk to expand its offering beyond ambient products to include an expansive chilled and frozen offering.

Speaking about the investment John Moane, Managing Director of BWG Foods Wholesale Division, owners and operators of the Value Centre network, said: ‘We are delighted to be announcing this investment in this region.

‘ The new state-of-the-art facility will enhance our operations locally and allow us to significantly upgrade our offering to customers’.

The announcement, which was made hours after Britain voted to leave the EU, and provided a much-needed boost in the border town, follows recent celebrations at Value Centre Dundalk as the site marked 50 years in business with the original branch manager, Gabriel Morrissey, in attendance as guest of honour.

The landmark event was celebrated with staff, past and present, and customers, with spot prize giveaways and food tastings among the many activities on the day.

Vincent Brown, Regional Manager, Value Centre said: ‘While this development does give us a strong platform to potentially grow further in the future, it also importantly reinforces our confidence in the local economy and our commitment to local business people.

‘It’s firmly our ambition to be celebrating another successful trading milestone here in Dundalk 50 years from now’.

Value Centre Dundalk currently employs 21 people while Value Centre Carrickmacross employs another six, with all employees transferring to the new site as part of the development.

With 22 locations across Ireland, Value Centre is the leading cash and carry wholesaler with the largest branch network in Ireland. Value Centre is owned and operated by the Wholesale Division of BWG Foods.

The Wholesale Division of BWG Foods comprises Value Centre, XL group and BWG Foodservice, a nationwide, multi-temperature, full-line foodservice business.
