Teen arrested after mugging

-

A 19-year-old man from Dundalk has been arrested on suspicion of robbery following an incident in the town centre in the early hours of Sunday morning during which another man was threatened and forced to hand over his phone.

The mugging took place at the Demesne shortly before 1am when the 21-year-old victim was walking him. He was approached by the teenager who threatened him and demanded that he hand over his HTC mobile phone, which he did.

But Gardai were quickly on the scene and the 19-year-old was arrested nearby after a chase and the phone was found on him. A file is being prepared for the DPP and Gardai said that while the victim was not physically injured in the attack, he was badly shaken by the robbery.

Meanwhile, detectives are investigating an unrelated incident in which a lorry which had been for sale in North Louth was stolen by a prospective buyer and later abandoned.

The incident happened at Balaggan, Greenore on Monday, June 20. The victim had agreed to let a potential buyer have a look at the vehicle, but the man drove off. The owner followed the stolen lorry which was later recovered, with the keys still in the ignition, close to Dundalk.

And Gardai in Monaghan have renewed their appeal for information about the death of 20-year-old Fintain Treanor who was killed at Lengare, Clontibret on June 26 2011 following a hit and run. They are interested in an old model Audi A4 with the front grill missing.
